Frequently Asked Questions

  • Therapy is all about creating and holding space for conversations to happen freely — with support and safety being of utmost importance. That being said, our time together is approached with the highest level of trust and sensitivity to whatever is discussed and confidentiality is absolutely honored.

There are circumstances when you may want me (as your therapist) to share information and/or provide an update to someone on your healthcare team (physician, psychiatrist, etc), but this will only be provided with your written permission (as stated by the law) through signing an “Informed Consent Form’

State law and professional ethics require therapist to maintain confidentiality expect in the following situations:

    • Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.

    • If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person.

  • Our time together will be 50 minutes in length (via virtual meeting), as well as an additional connection point during the week (via Voxer) to continue the conversation as needs come up between sessions. Sessions vary based on the needs of that week or the overall goals for counseling- our work together will be tailored to your specific needs.

There is no set timeframe for when therapy is “done”/”completed”: and actual length of therapy varies greatly depending on your needs/goals and commitment level (during session and between sessions).

  • The next step would be to fill out the inquiry form and I’ll be in touch via email to schedule our connection call. During our call, we will get an idea of your current needs/challenges and hopes for growth. From there, I will send you the paperwork that you’ll need to complete before our first session together and then our journey begins!

  • A therapist can help you approach your situation in a new way—with professional insight to teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself.

Counseling is a unique relationship – counseling is different from friendship in that friendship (at least a healthy friendship) is a two-way street, give and take. The counseling space is just for you- one that is supported by the safety of confidentiality and trust and exists with the only objective to hold space for you to be your most vulnerable, true self.

  • Nourish the Need does not accept insurance. There are several benefits to private pay — primarily, a greater level of privacy and control over your treatment. When a therapy session is billed through insurance, the insurance company often requires detailed documentation about your mental health including a diagnosis and updates regarding your progress. Some clients I work with do not meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis and some would prefer to have the details of their mental health treatment separate from their insurance/medical record. Further, insurance companies often limit the number of sessions they will pay for and restrict the therapeutic techniques which can be utilized during the treatment process. Depending on your benefits, private pay rates may be lower than insurance co-pays. Please check with your insurance provider for specifics.

  • Nourish the Need is an Out of Network (OON) provider, which means I am able to provide you with a monthly Superbill detailing the payments you have made for therapy sessions. You may be able to submit this document to your insurance company for partial reimbursement of therapy services. Please contact your insurance company directly for information regarding your eligibility and reimbursement rates. Please be aware that a mental health diagnosis is required to be provided to your insurance company for reimbursement if you utilize this option.

  • I offer a free 15-minute connection call before our first session. During this conversation we will discuss service options and rates based on your particular needs.

  • You are always welcome to contact me with service-related questions. If you’d like to talk more before deciding to book your first therapy session, I always offer one free 15-minute free connection call before beginning the client relationship.
